This cave consists of an 800m tourist cave and a 1,000m undeveloped cave, and the temperature inside the cave is approximately 12℃ all year round.

Many fossils such as crinoids and fusulina were discovered inside the cave, giving us a glimpse of what the ocean floor looked like 250 million years ago.

The attached Ohashi Collection Museum is also one of the highlights, and is managed by Hida Limestone Tourism Co., Ltd.

Hida Great Limestone Cave Ohashi Collection Museum

The museum exhibits artworks and various valuable collections collected by Sotoyoshi Ohashi, the discoverer of the Hida Great Limestone Cave.

This museum exhibits approximately 1,000 items (more than 3,000 items including small items) such as artworks, ornaments, precious stones, strange stones, and fossils that Sotokichi collected with his own personal funds.

It was attached to the Hida Great Limestone Cave, which was opened to the public as a tourist facility in 1968, and officially opened in 1987. This facility is managed and operated by Hida Daistalacto Kanko Co., Ltd.

There are various exhibits inside the museum, but one of the most noteworthy exhibits is a gold nugget that was made in 1989 at a cost of 200 million yen to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the discovery of the limestone cave. However, on March 18, 2007, this gold bullion was stolen and became a national topic of conversation.

The robbers were later arrested, and the gold bullion was broken down into multiple chunks and powder.

The state in which the returned gold bullion was left is on display, along with a lead replica of the gold bullion before it was stolen.
