Tsugaru Iwaki Skyline is known as a touring drive course with beautiful views of Mt. In this article, we will introduce the attractions and features of the Tsugaru Iwaki Skyline.
Mt. Iwaki
This volcano straddles Hirosaki City in Aomori Prefecture and Ajigasawa Town in Nishitsugaru County.
At 1,625m above sea level, it is the highest peak in Aomori Prefecture.
The shape of the mountain is also beautiful and is called Tsugaru Fuji, and it is also selected as one of Japan’s 100 famous mountains.

Entrance / tollgate
Tsugaru Iwaki Skyline is a toll road, and there is a toll booth a little further beyond the entrance.
In winter, it is closed due to heavy snowfall (around early November to late April the following year), so it’s best to check the official website before going for a run during uncertain times.
Furthermore, it seems that bicycles and motorcycles of 125cc or less are not allowed to pass.
Course
According to the official website, there are 69 curves.
It was 65 when I counted while making the video, but I counted from the tollgate and counted the multiple corners as one, so I think that’s the difference.
It takes about 30 minutes to get to the end point (Mt. Iwaki 8th Station Observatory), and it seems that the feeling of déjà vu will be stronger because the same corners continue.
It seems that the “Hill Climb Challenge” using this course is held once a year.
Please note that it will not be open to the public on that day.
Mt. Iwaki 8th Station Observatory
This is the Mt. Iwaki 8th Station Observatory, the end point of the Tsugaru Iwaki Skyline.
From here you can take a lift to the top of the mountain.
The scenery from the 8th station is also wonderful, and you can see the Sea of Japan, and if the conditions are good, you can see as far as Hokkaido.
