Overview and features of “Onioshi Highway”

Onioshi Highway is a toll road that runs from Kamabara, Tsumagoi Village, Gunma Prefecture, to Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku District, Nagano Prefecture, and is managed and operated by Prince Hotels.

This refers to the approximately 16 km stretch of the Asama-Shirane Volcano route that runs through Joshin’etsu Kogen National Park, from Kamabara to Onioshidashien to Minenochaya.

Mount Asama

Asamayama is an andesitic stratovolcano with an altitude of 2,568 meters (m) located on the border between Karuizawa Town and Miyota Town, Kitasaku District, Nagano Prefecture, and Tsumagoi Village, Agatsuma District, Gunma Prefecture. The volcano is conical and has a caldera, and is known as an active volcano.
