Minibike (125cc or less) cannot cross the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, but you can cross to Awaji Island by using the Awaji Genova Line.
The Awaji Genova Line connects Akashi Port in Honshu with Iwaya Port in Awaji. The boat trip takes about 13 minutes.
In this article, I will introduce the boarding area and my impressions after boarding the ship.
What is Awaji Genova Line?
This is a marine transportation that connects Akashi Port on Honshu and Iwaya Port on Awaji Island in about 13 minutes.
If you are traveling between Honshu and Awaji by bicycle or motorbike under 125cc, we recommend using the Genova Line.
Boarding situation
I’d like to introduce you to what it was like to actually board the ship.
After completing the boarding procedures, we lined up our bikes on the pier and waited for the ship to arrive [Image 1].
After a while, the ship entered the port [Image 2].
It’s a bigger ship than I expected. There seem to be several ships, and some cannot carry motorcycles.
Please check with Genova Line for details.
Once everyone has finished getting off, it’s time to board the ship. Push yourself up the ramp leading to the ship and board.
Fix the vehicle body to the fixing bracket. The staff will do it for you.
Inside the ship
The inside of the ship is quite spacious. There’s a TV, air conditioning, a toilet, and it’s very comfortable to move around.
I found out later that it seems like you can go outside as well.
Passing through Akashi Kaikyo Bridge
Pass under the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. It’s an experience that is hard to come by.
Riding a boat while touring by bike gives you the feeling of traveling and makes you feel better.
We arrived at Iwaya Port in Awaji in about 10 minutes.
Pay attention to the number of loaded vehicles
It seems that only 5 bikes can fit on one ship.
Also, not all ships are equipped to carry motorcycles, so there are some ships you can’t ride on.
