Overview of Togakushi Shrine

Togakushi Shrine is located around Mt. Togakushi in the northwest of Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture, and is a shrine that has been worshiped since ancient times.

There are multiple legends about its founding, but one theory says that Okusha was founded in the 5th year of Emperor Kogen (210 BC).

The founding of Kuzuryu Shrine is older than this Okusha, and according to legend, Kuzuryu Omikami, the local landowner deity, welcomed Amante Rikio no Mikoto.

Togakushi Shrine is located at the foot of the sacred mountain Mt. Togakushi and consists of five shrines: Okusha, Chusha, Hokosha, Kuzuryusha, and Hinomikosha.
