Overview and characteristics of National Route 368

National Route 368 is a general national highway that connects Iga City, Mie Prefecture to Mitsue Village, Uda District, Nara Prefecture, and Nigaki Pass is a particularly noteworthy point.

This road is positioned by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as an important communication and exchange route connecting the Iga region, Matsusaka region, and Nansei region.

National Route 368 runs mostly within Mie Prefecture, but it is unique in that it only passes through Nara Prefecture for 2.7 kilometers.

The section introduced this time: Taki-cho, Taki-gun, Mie Prefecture – Misugi-cho, Tsu City, Mie Prefecture

Prefectural Route 421 ~ Suhara Water Plaza

I realized later that this area was on Prefectural Route 421. A gentle course continues along the Kushida River.

At Suhara Water Plaza, you can enjoy water play, BBQ, and camping for free.

Kayumi Akataki

There is a convenience store at the intersection of ”Kayumi Akataki”. It might be a good idea to take a break here for now. If Nigaki Pass is closed to traffic, a signboard may be posted around this area.

Nigakitoge Pass

This is Nigaki Pass, which is the rough road section of National Route 368.

Although the section of Nigaki Pass is short, the road is narrow and trees grow thick on both sides, making it a dark and harsh road even during the day.

There are a few places where you can pass each other, but it’s relatively busy considering it’s a rough road, so be careful not to let go.

The Nigaki Pass Bypass is scheduled to open in 2034, and future development is expected.

With the completion of this bypass, more drivers will be able to detour around the Ikudo section, allowing more drivers to safely enjoy the charms of Nigaki Pass.
