This is the shortest route (*no tunnel) that runs almost straight through Mt. Ikoma, which straddles Osaka (Higashi-Osaka City) and Nara (Ikoma City).
Normally, it goes straight where it folds in a zigzag, so naturally, it is said that the maximum slope is 31% or 36% to 41% (there are various theories).
Although the maximum slope of national highways is stipulated as 12%, it is easily exceeded.
Route
▽Osaka on the left, Nara on the right.
Elevation is 455m.It’s almost straight, not a zigzag.
Since it is the shortest distance, in some cases the car navigation system may guide you.
Slope
The altitude at the starting point on the left end is 79m, and the altitude at the 2.3km point on the right end is 455m.
Route 308 (Osaka side)
▽ Near the beginning of Route 308. Join the hiking course from Hiraoka Park from the left. It looks like a mountain trail, but it is also a national highway, so cars and motorcycles are often running. There are private houses near the top of the mountain, so there is also a side of the road that is used as a community road.
▽ Signs installed along the way
There is a slope like this in a considerable section of the route.
There are several climbing courses on Mt. Ikoma, but Route 308 is much tougher than the climbing course, even on foot.
Perhaps because of that, I see many people using it for training.
Climb while running or climb by bicycle. Respect to you.
Max Gradient: Corkscrew
The famous corner with the maximum slope and amazing swell.
Many tire marks tell that it is a steep slope.Nonetheless, all cars pass surprisingly normally.
▽ I think the cause of the tire marks is the undulation of the road rather than the slope.
If you go too far to the inside, the load will be removed from the inner tire, and the effect of the differential will make it difficult for the driving force to be transmitted to the road surface.
Is it the same logic as getting stuck in off-road? Therefore, it is safe to run on the outside side as much as possible.
Near the top
Stone monument, stone pavement
▽It is a place where you can feel the history with the stone pavement laid by the Koriyama clan in the Edo period.
It vibrates a lot when you ride your bike.
▽The stone monument of “Antouge” and the monument of “100 selections of Japanese roads”.
You can see that this steep mountain pass is loved.
Pass teahouse Suehiro
The top of the mountain is often introduced in the media such as “Touge no Chaya Suehiro”.
There is a space for about 2 cars, and if there is space, it seems that you can park a motorcycle or a car there.
Inside of shop
▽ In addition to the inside of the store, there is also a terrace seat.
It has a roof so you can use it even on rainy days.
Meny
We also sell snacks and beer.
I was surprised that there were more menus than I expected.
It would be nice to come empty-handed, have a meal here, and go home.
Other charms of Kuragari Toge
Rice terraces
The terraced rice fields near the top are attractive not only for the scenery but also for the sounds of nature.
Please enjoy the sound of ↓.
