Mt. Bandai Gold Line is an attractive sightseeing road with beautiful scenery that runs from Oaza Sarashina, Bandai Town, Yama District, Fukushima Prefecture to Oaza Hinohara, Kitashiobara Village.
It opened in 1970 and used to be a toll road, but since 2013 it has been open to the public for free and has expanded as part of Fukushima Prefectural Route 64 Aizu-Wakamatsu Urabandai Line.
The popular name “Mt. Bandai Gold Line” is named after the local folk song “Mt. Aizu Bandai.”

The Mt. Bandai Gold Line is a general road that runs from Maaraiba, Oaza Sarashina, Bandai-machi, Yama-gun, Fukushima Prefecture to Mt. Yuhira, Oaza Hinohara, Kitashiobara-mura, Yama-gun.
This road, also known as the Bandaisan Gold Line, opened on June 1, 1970. Previously, it was a general toll road and managed by the Fukushima Prefectural Road Public Corporation, but the toll collection period expired on July 25, 2013, and it was permanently opened to the public for free (transitioned to a general road).
This is a 17.6 km sightseeing road that starts from Genbashi in Bandai Town and connects with National Route 459, passing over Kurabe and Nekoma Happodai, which are sandwiched between Mt.
Beautiful scenery and observation point
Observation parking is provided along the road, and on the Omote Bandai side, you can see Lake Inawashiro from “Sankodai“, Nametaki Observatory from Nametaki Falls, and Koganedaira from which you can see Mt. , “Boukodai” overlooking Lake Hibara, etc.
It is especially famous for its autumn leaves, and is a popular place where you can enjoy beautiful natural scenery.
Winter road closure
In the winter, it passes through the slopes of the Altz Bandai Ski Resort, so it is completely closed from early November to late April of the following year.
It is passable from spring to autumn, and many tourists visit especially during the fall foliage season.
