[Bolt-on] ZRX1100 LED headlight

The headlight went out during touring, probably due to the damage on the rough road. It’s a lot of trouble, so it’s LED! I tried it, but the irradiation range is narrow even if I change only the light bulb to the halogen light. There is no problem in town driving, but I want a wider range to be illuminated on mountain roads.

Disassemble first

remove bikini cowl

▲I removed the bikini cowl. What a lonely sight. I was thinking of going with the rounded ZRX II, but I won’t.

Remove the H4 coupler from the headlight ~ Remove the bulb.

Remove the pin on the back of the headlight and pull it out. With the light bulb removed from the H4 coupler. The coupler melted and I forced the light bulb out.

▲Pull it out for easy access.

▲The resin part around the terminal is melted. This may have been the cause of the burnout. It looks like it might melt. I can’t use the coupler anymore, but I don’t have replacement parts at hand, so today’s work ends here.

At a later date, I will purchase an H4 coupler at Naps (about 400 yen), cut the wiring of the motorcycle, peel off the coating, and replace it with a new coupler. Since the terminal is crimped and fixed, electrical work pliers were necessary. It was saved because I had it. If you also have a terminal set, you can use it for repairs when home appliances are broken. In the past, I peeled off the film and used vinyl tape, but it is safer to use a proper terminal.

Operation check

Check the operation with the LED bulb attached to the coupler. Also check if there is no problem with Hi-Lo switching.

Complete

I wondered what would happen for a while, but somehow it turned on and the cowl was restored to its original state.

▲I wonder what will happen for a while, but I managed to install and turn it on safely. The illumination range of bright objects is narrow. There is no problem in city riding, but it may be uneasy in mountainous areas at night. After all, it would be better to have a headlight body that matches the LED. If I feel a problem, I think I’ll try HID, which has the same diffusion of light as halogen. That should probably solve it.
