Cape Puyuni
It is a cape facing the Sea of Okhotsk, 3.5 km east of Utoro Port on the northern coast of the Shiretoko Peninsula. It was designated as Shiretoko National Park in 1964 (Showa 39), and in 2005 (Heisei 17), it was registered as a component heritage of the World Heritage “Shiretoko”. It is known as the first place where the drift ice came ashore, and as a famous spot for watching the sun sink into the horizon. The view from here is counted as one of Shiretoko Hakkei.
Puyuni means “a place with a hole” in Ainu language.
