The Ororon Line is a wonderful driving route that runs north-south along the coastline on the Sea of Japan side of Hokkaido.
It spans about 290 km, starting at the mouth of the Ishikari River in Ishikari City and ending in Wakkanai City.
This route connects National Route 231, National Route 232, and Prefectural Route 106, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the coastline.
Overview and features of the “Ororon Line”
The National Route 337 section enters Ishikari City from Zenibako, Otaru City, and connects to National Route 231.
National Route 231 section runs along the coast, around Cape Ofuyu, and then reaches Rumoi City.
This is a great route where you can drive while looking at the ocean along the way.

National Route 232 north of Rumoi runs along the beach, passing through Kodaira Town, Tomamae Town, Haboro Town, Hatsuyamabetsu Village, and Tobetsu Town before reaching Teshio Town.
There are many facilities in this section, including Roadside Station Rumoi and Roadside Station Roman Kaido Shosanbetsu, where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Sea of Japan.
Beyond that, on Prefectural Route 106, the windmills of the Otonrui Wind Power Plant are lined up for 3km along the road, offering a spectacular view of Rishiri Fuji.

At each roadside station, you can enjoy local specialties and delicious meals.
From the Shosanbetsu Observatory, you can see the beautiful sunset over the Sea of Japan and the starry sky, and a romantic experience awaits you.
Route 106 runs north-south through the Sarobetsu Plain, and the windmills of the Otonrui Wind Power Station run along the road for 3km.
It is popular as a scenic driving route where you can see Mt. You can fully enjoy Hokkaido’s great nature while enjoying the beauty and tranquility of nature.
Where does the “Ororon Line” start and end?
It is a driving course of about 225 km from Ishikari to Wakkanai*, which takes about 4.5 hours (National Route 231 between Ishikari City and Rumoi, National Route 232 between Rumoi and Teshio, and Prefectural Route 106 between Teshio and Wakkanai).
(* In some cases, the distance from Otaru to Ishikari is about 380km.)
